nickcolor.pl malfunctioning

Not technically an irssi client-related question, I know, but I'm
hoping someone knows how to fix this.

I have nickcolor.pl installed and enabled but it appears to assign
different people within the same channel the same colour, which sort
of defeats the purpose of it.

Any idea how to change this?

Thanks!

It's a simple hash without a lot of entropy so it will and does "loop" back
around even in small channels.
It would be nice if it had a heuristic that kept it from looping back to
the top of the colour list before it has exhausted every colour.

We need a nickcolour 2.0

This would work: http://blog.rnf.me/2012/making-twirssi-work-for-me.html

Alas, I am no coder.

Not only does it not work in the way I expected, but unloading it has
ruined the default irssi theme. Is there a way to edit the default
theme's colours, or otherwise reset it?
